Katie Livingston

Bio

Katie is an English PhD student at Stanford with BA in English and certificate in Writing from Wesleyan University. She has been tutoring and teaching writing for over seven years. From a small college in her home state of Oklahoma to liberal arts universities to community colleges, she's taught writing at the college level to all kinds of students.

As a result, her teaching philosophy is student-centered. She focuses on making each student feel a confident ownership over their writing in hopes that they can learn to see writing as a process, rather than a product. Katie believes that the college application essay is not just an opportunity to showcase a student's achievements, but a valuable venue for expressing a student's story, personality, and values. Her students have been admitted to Stanford, top UCs, and USC.
